Legal? Most people know that in the UK it is illegal to ride a 'Segway' on public footpaths. Unfortunately the same goes for the Robin M1. After direct correspondence with the Department for Transport (DfT), UK Robstep have found that the Robin M1 is classed, as a Segway is, a two-wheeled motor vehicle. Meaning that the Highways Act of 1835, which prohibits the riding of any 'carriage' upon the footpath, enforces the use of the Robin M1 to private property.
PRIVATE PROPERTY? A Bit Vague.... Don't worry. it is everywhere that is not footpath or road. You can ride a Robin M1 in so many places. Just think Supermarket, Shopping Mall/Centre, University/College Campus, Golf Courses with the Robin M1 Golf, at home, at work?, airports, museums, clubs, race courses. The list is endless. The Mobility Robin M1 PackageThe Robin M1 at default has two settings; beginner mode and advanced mode. Here all we need to concentrate on is beginner mode. Beginner mode is already set to a maximum of 4.3mph, however the law is the law and 4mph is the maximum allowed speed. Therefore what we need to do is cap this off at 4mph. To do this we give you an Android Application to put on an Android Device that connects to the Robin M1 via Bluetooth, you then follow the simple step by step instructions to lower the maximum speed of the beginner mode of your Robin M1. We at UK Robstep then call this 'UK mode'. Once you are in UK mode at a limited 4mph then the Robin M1 can be used on footpaths.
Simple as that. At the moment we believe that only people registered as disabled are allowed to use a Robin M1 as a Mobility Scooter. The only exemptions of this are when demonstrating the vehicle before it’s sold, and/or training a disabled user. The Robin M1 does not require to be registered or taxed and must not be used on the road, except when not footpath is available.
